Where Demons Dare by Kim Harrison

Rachel and her mother are shopping for Halloween costumes and talismans when the demon Al appears, destroys the shop, and nearly kills Rachel. Somebody is summoning him out of demon prison, and setting him after Rachel -- and her personal patch of holy ground is getting a big cramped, due to an increasingly bloodlusting Ivy and Jenks' massive family moving in.

And as Rachel struggle to cope with these problems, she learns that Ceri is pregnant -- and to keep her baby and the elf race healthy, they need a sample of ancient elf tissue from the ever-after. Though Rachel initially refuses, she finds that this elf drama is somehow connected to the terrible secrets of her past -- and a journey to the ever-after might help her defeat Al. But it might also open a Pandora's box of secrets about Rachel's own future... 


Action packed, a possible new love interest, lots of revelations and a few hints of what's to come in this series make for a great book. 

2007 by Robin Williams

It is the year 2007. The weather is now wreaking turmoil on the planet. Hurricanes, cyclones, tsunamis, floods, fires, droughts and diseases are sweeping the world with increasing frequency and severity. The poor countries are worst hit, but even the rich ones are no longer immune from major disruption. Big business is worried.

In April 2007, the animals take matters into their own hands. An enormous pod of whales sinks a whale-killing submarine. Massive flocks of pelicans close airports around the world. Huge herds of cattle bring freeways everywhere to a halt, burying cars under mountains of steaming dung.

Desperate to find a solution to the global chaos, the President of the United States calls on the world's top scientists to explain what it happening and how to stop it. One man, his daughter and her dog hold the key, but before things can get better, they have to get a great deal worse.

Some of it believable (government bungling, big business taking matters into their own hands, the world coming to an end so the UN forms a committee), some not quite so believable, but overall an entertaining read. I liked some of the ideas that were proposed at the end.

The Undead Next Door by Kerrelyn Sparks

Sweet Heather Westfield has an adorable daughter, an overbearing ex-husband, a feisty nanny, and too many dreams that were never fulfilled. The talented designer/seamstress stayed in her small Texas town to appease her mother and became a school teacher instead of pursuing her ambition to be a fashion designer. When one of the world's top names in couture opens a boutique nearby, she is drawn to the life she gave up, and to the man who has designed fashions for some of Hollywood's biggest stars. 

World-weary Jean-Luc Escharpe has seen it all since he was transformed into a vampire centuries ago. A skilled swordsman, he fought as a lieutenant-colonel in the vampire army, and in later decades, pursued his skills a businessman and designer. His career has kept him in the public eye a little too long, however, causing many to wonder how the designer who clad Marilyn Monroe and Cary Grant still looks so young and handsome. What he needs is some time away and a place to hide out. But on the eve of his self-imposed isolation, he meets a beautiful woman who has been burned by love. Heather awakens long-dead feelings in Jean-Luc and makes him start to wonder if he could have another chance at love after all. 

But with a crazed killer bent on revenge tracking Jean-Luc's every move, being around him is not exactly the safest place in the world. Then there's the whole undead element thrown into the mix. Jean-Luc is certain a relationship with Heather would never work out because she could never accept him as he is. But Heather has some surprises up her homemade sleeves: she's declared a war on fear, and this Texas sweetie vows not to let anyone stand in the way of what she wants. And she wants Jean-Luc. 


Laugh out loud moments, two wounded people finding each other, a cute little girl and a feisty nanny all worked together to make a really good read. 

Bad Love by Jonathan Kellerman

Spine-chilling screams, followed by a childlike chant that includes the words "bad love, bad love," appear on a tape sent anonymously to Alex Delaware, the financially independent, Los Angeles-based child psychologist and amateur sleuth who has starred in seven previous Kellerman novels, beginning with When the Bough Breaks. Delaware's pal, LAPD detective Milo Sturgis, recalls that recently a man shouted "bad love" after killing his therapist in a clinic. After some research, the psychologist remembers that he was coerced into serving as cochair of a less-than-successful 1979 conference honoring analyst Andres de Bosch, who espoused a theory of maternal good love/bad love. Starting from these seemingly unrelated past events, the two men pursue one tenuous lead after another to a surprising conclusion. 


An engrossing read with lots of twists and turns. Loved Rover/Spike/Barry. He was the outstanding character of the book. 

Darkfever by Karen Marie Moning

With one voicemail message MacKayla Lane's world turns upside down. Alina, her beloved sister is dead and the message Alina leaves behind for Mac could not have made less sense. With it, happy to live the simple life Mac finds herself drawn to Dublin, Ireland, the place of her sister's murder, and into a mystery that leaves more questions asked than answered. 

It doesnt take Mac long to get inextricably involved in a world that she never knew existed, full of dark creatures and dark artifacts and at the heart of it a man who knows all- including who she truly is. She will learn that nothing is as it seems and that everything she thought she was will have to change in order to find her sister's murderer- even if it kills her. 


 I didn't like the cliffhanger ending. I know it's the first in a series, but I like some kind of resolution at the end of a book.

Wonderful characters, fast paced action and hot romance.

Midnight In Death by J.D. Robb

ve's name has a made a Christmas list, but it's not for being naughty or nice. It's for putting a serial killer behind bars. Now the escaped madman has her in his sights. With her husband Roarke at her side, Eve must stop the man from exacting his bloody vengeance-or die trying. 

Too short to give you the usual details or to progress long running relationships, but a good read nonetheless.
