Baking Cakes In Kigali by Gaile Parkin

In Rwanda's capital Angel Tungaraza runs a small business baking cakes for her the celebrations of her neighbours.

In each chapter a cake is created to celebrate a certain event, and during the discussions of the cake or the life of the person ordering the cake I learnt more about living in Rwanda and it's modern history. Topics touched on included AIDS, homelessness, distribution of UN funding, genocide, bride-money, and the colonisation of Africa.

A good story, a great read and a genuine, believable, overall even, considering some of the topics covered, a feel good story.

9/10
