An Event In Autumn by Henning Mankell

Nearing retirement, Chief Inspector Kurt Wallander is looking for a quiet place in the Swedish countryside. A colleague sends him off to look at a small farm house that seems ideal, but on close inspection turns out be a burial ground of sorts. And so begins an interesting police procedural looking into a 50-year old crime with few clues or living witnesses.

Short but great with an interesting epilogue about how he began writing the Kurt Wallander series.

Vendetta In Death by J D Robb

You know who the bad girl is from about half way, then it's watching Eve take her down.  Not enough Roarke in this one, but still a good story.

This book started out really good, then got really strange. It was ok but I have desire to read anything else by this author.

This was absolutely brilliant!  I even went up to the bookshop at lunchtime to see if I could get the next in the series.

I loved the way it was told through e-mails, transcripts taken from court martials, , the way the page was written literally making a picture.  WOW!

The Truth About Peacock Blue by Rosanne Hawke

Everything changes for Aster the night her brother dies. Suddenly she's the only hope of the family, and instead of an early marriage to a boy from her small village in Pakistan, her parents decide to send her to the government high school in her brother's place. Aster is excited about this unexpected opportunity for a career, but, as a Christian, she is unprepared for the difficulties of attending a Muslim school: her fellow students are far from welcoming and one of her teachers takes an instant dislike to her. One day, she is accused of intentionally making a spelling mistake to insult the holy prophet. Her teacher is incensed and accuses her of blasphemy. A violent crowd forms outside the school and Aster is taken to jail to be tried at a later date. A young social justice lawyer takes up her case, and Aster's Australian cousin, Maryam, starts an online campaign to free Aster. But will it be enough to save her?

A very moving story.  It's not a true story about one girl, but the character is put together from the experiences of a number of girls who have been jailed and killed for minor or made up offences.  There wasn't a nice neat ending.  She went to jail at 14, by the end of the story she was 17 and in solitary.

Gripping, fast paced and imaginative story that is all too believable.
