Sookie Stackhouse is still mourning her breakup with Bill when he tells her that he's off to Peru to meet with some vampires there. But Sookie isn't able to think about Bill much when, on her drive home from work, she finds vampire Eric, scared and vulnerable, wandering the streets in the middle of the night with almost no clothes on. He's lost his memory, has no idea what has happened to him, so Sookie decides to look after him. She is shocked to find that he is no longer the no-nonsense vampire trying to get into her pants that he'd once been. It appears that some witches have put a spell on Eric and are planning to wreak havoc among the supernaturals in Shreveport. To make matters worse, Sookie's brother is missing. Sookie seeks the help of the local vampires, werewolves and other shape shifters, but will they be able to fight against the most powerful witches ever encountered?
Lots of differences between this and True Blood.
Tara is the owner of a classy dress shop, it is Eric that steps between Sookie and a bullet when Debbie tries to kill her and while Jason is kidnapped by one of the were-panthers, it was because one of them was jealous about him dating Crystal and not for breeding purposes.
Still a good read though.

Little Girl Lost by Barbie Probert-Wright
In 1945, seven-year-old Barbie and her sister Eva were trapped, terrified, in war-torn Germany. With their father missing, and hundreds of miles from their mother, news of the approaching army left them confronted with an impossible choice: to face invasion, or to flee on foot. Eva, aged 19, was determined to find her mother. For Barbie, 12 years younger, the journey was to be more perilous but, spurred on by her sister’s courage and her desperate desire to be reunited with her mother, she joined Eva on a journey no child should ever have to endure. Over three hundred miles across a country ravaged by a terrible war, they encountered unimaginable hardship, extraordinary courage and overwhelming generosity. Against all the odds, they survived. But neither sister came out of the journey unscathed .....
What an interesting read! Based on a true story, its a story full of hope and courage ... how they walked that far and survived ... amazing!!!

A Thousand Words For Stranger by Julie F Czerneda
The story of a woman on the run, from the law, her own people, and an unknown pursuer. Her memory taken from her by a stasis block, Sira must stay free long enough to regain her identity and the full use of her telepathic powers-for failure may cost not only her own future but that of her entire race.
Really good mystery with a touch of romance and excellent sci fi.
Now I want the next in the series! | |

Dagger Dark by Richard Millership
"New York City in the year 2018 is a decaying fotress where serial killings are so commonplace they barely raise an eyebrow. A designer-drug culture where everything is legal - except for those substances so dangerous even knowledge of their existence is controlled. Substances like Dagametoxamine, or Dagger.
Then comes a series of murders tha turn even the hardest of stomachs, their signature so grisly it seems impossible the perpetrator is human."
Good mystery by an Aussie author.
New York in the future sounds very dangerous, very dark and very wet. It rained all the time in this book.

Insatiable by Meg Cabot
TV writer Meena Harper creates fabulous plots for Insatiable, the second-highest–rated soap opera, thanks to her burdensome if lucrative psychic ability to see into the future and determine how people are going to die. And just as Insatiable is switching to a vampire theme to attract a younger demographic, a spate of chilling murders-by-exsanguination grips New York City. Enter Lucien Antonescu, a sexy, melancholic Romanian history professor/vampire who recognizes that the murders are the work of rogue vampires who have broken away from his order. (Lucien happens to be the son of Vlad the Impaler, whom Bram Stoker gave such a bad rep.) Lucien's opposition: Alaric Wulf, a sympathetic detective from the Palatine Guard, who hopes to use Meena and her prophetic gift to stop the murders and track down Lucien.
This was slow to start, good in the middle then had a disappointing ending....she broke it off with the vampire because he could turn into a dragon. What sort of reason is that!!!
There are a couple more in this series but I won't be looking for them.

Pleasure Unbound by Larissa Ione
Tayla Mancuso is a demon-slayer who hungers for sensual pleasure - but fears it will always be denied her. Until she lands in a hospital run by demons in disguise, and the head doctor, Eidolon, makes her body burn with unslakable desire. But to prove her ultimate loyalty to her peers, she must betray the surgeon who saved her life.
Eidolon cannot resist this fiery, dangerous woman who fills him with both rage and passion. Not only is she his avowed enemy, but she could very well be the hunter who has been preying upon his people. Torn between his need for the truth and his quest to find his perfect mate before a horrific transformation claims him forever, Eidolon will dare the unthinkable - and let Tayla possess him, body and soul . . .
I found this slow to start, but I am glad I stuck with it as it improved a lot as I read.
I have book 3 in this series and am looking forward to reading it. I won't be rushing out to get more in the series though, Demons just don't do it for me like Vampires and were's.

Last Wolf Standing by Rhyannon Byrd
Whether Wolf or human, Mason Dillinger has never had to work at attracting a woman before - females have just naturally flocked to him. Now he has found his mate - however unwillingly - and he must actually woo the woman, all while keeping her fragile human body in one piece. See, there's this rogue werewolf Mason is hunting, and that rogue would like nothing better than to exact his vengeance on Mason by destroying everything he loves. But Mason isn't new to this game. As a Blood Runner, he's old hat at tracking and killing rogue werewolves - those that have developed a penchant for killing humans. And with the beautiful Torry's pretty neck on the line, Mason will stop at nothing to ensure her safety - even if it means his own life. When the trail of the killer points to a threat much larger than one lone rogue werewolf, it will take everything he's got to keep them both alive.
A bit slow to start but picked up as it went along. A lighter werewolf read.
