NYPD Lieutenant Eve Dallas is on the trail of a serial killer terrorizing the city during the holidays. The only link between the victims--all are patrons of an exclusive dating service, Personally Yours. Working with her aide Officer Peabody, Peabody's nemesis Ian McNab, and her own intriguing husband, Roarke, Eve gradually uncovers what else it is that link the victims.
Another great read in this series.
Eve is starting to get used to her relationship with Roarke a bit more. It's adding more to the story, and for once the victims had nothing to do with Roarke or Mavis.

Act of Violence by Margaret Yorke
The facade of the quintessentially English market town of Mickleburgh has successfully hidden the secrets of its inhabitants for generations but the casual murder of a man trying to prevent some vandalism shatters the peaceful veneer. Parents are forced to consider that their children might be involved in the killing and the aftermath of violent death reveals unexpected reactions and emotions between partners and friends.
You know from the beginning who the young offenders are. The mystery is who is the convicted murderer whose thoughts appear from time to time.
The main focus of the story is the reactions of the characters to the sudden violence in their small village.

Vengeance in Death by J.D. Robb
He is an expert with the latest technology ... a madman with the mind of a genius and the heart of a killer. He quietly stalks his prey. Then he haunts the police with cryptic riddles about crimes he is about to commit - always solved moments too late to save his victims' lives. Police Lieutenant Eve Dallas finds the first victim butchered in his own home. The second loses his life in a vacant luxury apartment. The two men had little in common. Both suffered unspeakable torture before their deaths. And both had ties to an ugly secret of ten years past - a secret shared by none other than Eve's new husband, Roarke.
A perfect blend of suspense and romance. It is fast paced and full of action.
A little more of Roarke's past is revealed and Sommerset's character is developed more.

Death Watch by Ray Harrison
The setting is London just before the turn of the century, but Harrison's third mystery featuring the veteran detective-sergeant Joseph Bragg and the toney young constable James Morton has a distinctly modern air. The Home Office has assigned its Special Branch to investigate recent union activity, but when the body of an undercover officer is found impaled on the spiked railing of Allhallows Church, the coroner puts Bragg on the case. Then Bragg is framed on a rape charge and it's up to Morton, with the assistance of a feisty young female reporter, to find out who is stirring things up and why. Elements of industrial and international espionage, military technology, romance and even a suggestion of partisan terrorism build to a high-flying, balloon-chasing climax in this tale that's a period piece only in its trappings.
I enjoyed this book. The setting was a bit different to usual and the mystery had enough twists and turns to keep me guessing.

A quick, fun read.
Not a traditional romance.

The Restraint of Beasts by Magnus Mills
The Restraint of Beasts begins as an unnamed English fence builder finds himself promoted to foreman over Tam and Richie, two undermotivated Scots laborers. They've just been sent out to fix a high-tension fence when events go horribly awry--and that's just the beginning.
Strange book.... I found myself far more engaged in a novel revolving around fence post driving than I ever expected to be.

In Her Bed by Deborah MacGillivray
Damian St. Giles has woken up before with a sore head from imbibing too much mead, but finding himself naked and shackled to a bed is an entirely new experience. As if in a dream, a flame-haired enchantress appears and offers him a brew to ease his pain...and enflame his desire. He soon realizes this Highland beauty has given him a potent aphrodisiac and she is fully prepared to take all his body has to offer...
Lady Aithinne Ogilvie knows she must treat this man as nothing more than a stud, for that is what he is to her...a means to get her with child and thus produce an heir who will save her inheritance from ruthless Scottish warriors and greedy King Edward. Yet she cannot deny the instant bond she feels for this handsome stranger - and the feeling that it will be the prisoner in her bed who will end up laying claim to her heart.
An enjoyable, light read with lots of sex.
