Another great read in this series.

Eve is starting to get used to her relationship with Roarke a bit more. It's adding more to the story, and for once the victims had nothing to do with Roarke or Mavis.

Act of Violence by Margaret Yorke

The facade of the quintessentially English market town of Mickleburgh has successfully hidden the secrets of its inhabitants for generations but the casual murder of a man trying to prevent some vandalism shatters the peaceful veneer. Parents are forced to consider that their children might be involved in the killing and the aftermath of violent death reveals unexpected reactions and emotions between partners and friends.

You know from the beginning who the young offenders are. The mystery is who is the convicted murderer whose thoughts appear from time to time.

The main focus of the story is the reactions of the characters to the sudden violence in their small village.

Vengeance in Death by J.D. Robb

A perfect blend of suspense and romance. It is fast paced and full of action.

A little more of Roarke's past is revealed and Sommerset's character is developed more.

Death Watch by Ray Harrison

The setting is London just before the turn of the century, but Harrison's third mystery featuring the veteran detective-sergeant Joseph Bragg and the toney young constable James Morton has a distinctly modern air. The Home Office has assigned its Special Branch to investigate recent union activity, but when the body of an undercover officer is found impaled on the spiked railing of Allhallows Church, the coroner puts Bragg on the case. Then Bragg is framed on a rape charge and it's up to Morton, with the assistance of a feisty young female reporter, to find out who is stirring things up and why. Elements of industrial and international espionage, military technology, romance and even a suggestion of partisan terrorism build to a high-flying, balloon-chasing climax in this tale that's a period piece only in its trappings.

I enjoyed this book. The setting was a bit different to usual and the mystery had enough twists and turns to keep me guessing.

Strange book.... I found myself far more engaged in a novel revolving around fence post driving than I ever expected to be.

In Her Bed by Deborah MacGillivray
